Chuck the chihuahua is old. That's it. That's his sin. He's losing some teeth and has slowed a step and for his years of being a good and loyal companion, he received a boot out the door and was dumped at the pound to die alone. Nice, huh?

We got news of his story just in time. A few hours more and this bundle of love and kisses would have been gone. Irving House rescuers claimed him and now he has life anew, a second chance for love and happiness with people who will never abandon him.

This 'tail' had a happy ending. They don't all. But we are working to change that. We can make it happen and give 'four-paw' companions like Chuck the life they deserve.,, Irving House Animal Sanctuary and you!

'Dare to Care'

During the overnight hours of July 2, 2010 the final chapter of this story was written when the bouncy little chihuahua we called Chicho crossed over Rainbow Bridge. He was a tubby bundle of love from the moment he came to us and right from the first he was our little prince. He was the chihuahua with the lion's heart. He will be greatly and deeply missed until that day when we meet once again just the other side of Rainbow Bridge...

Chuck, affectionately renamed Chicho, was the unofficial therapy dog of Irving House. He had weekly visits with Annie, an elderly woman confined to her home. He ran around on his four little legs until his tongue hung out of his mouth, then it was a quick two minute rest and then he was off the couch, yep, the couch! and he would bring the lady his ball and she'd roll it across the floor and he'd bring it back and she'd roll it again, you get the picture...And, then it was a quick two minute rest, for them both, and then he'd be up and running across the floor and into the dining room where he'd make any kind of noise to get her to get up and see what he was into. It was usually a shopping bag, or the laundry basket.
This might not sound like much to you, but this was a woman who had fought against doing her physical therapy and seemed to be waiting to die on the couch.
Chicho got her out of her house...he got her walking and doing her exercises and using her cane. He got her living her life again.

The moral?, the lesson?, the point?...When you Dare to Care, good things happen.

Dare to Care and watch miracles unfold before your very eyes...
